About Us
Charis FD was started in 2009 by Andrew Burrows, an experienced senior finance professional and chartered accountant. Click here to read more about Andrew.The Charis FD services may be different to anything else you have come across. We certainly don’t like to put a label on it, because we believe we can help you in a different way to any other advisory service provider.
Are We Management Consultants? No, we’re not management consultants. We have similar expertise and training, but management consultants tend to a) write reports and project action plans; and b) work with you intensively on a specified piece of work for a short period of time. In contrast we give you hands on assistance, working with you to solve problems and move your business forward. Our service programmes are geared to staying by your side as you develop and grow your business over the years.
We don’t like to say we are better than management consultants. In fact we will sometimes advise clients to engage consultants to assist with specific projects or investigative research if we believe that they will add value. In that sense our service complements that of the consulting firms.
Are We Accountants? Well, yes and no! Almost every experienced finance professional started out by training as an accountant with a respected body such as the ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA. And there is a good reason for that. Those qualifications give an essential foundation in working with the numbers of business and in the theory of business management. So yes we are accountants by training! But you will almost definitely already be working with an accounting firm that at least produces your year end statutory accounts, does your tax returns for you and perhaps performs an annual audit. These are known as “accountants in public practice”. Their expertise is especially in knowing the rules - whether for statutory accounts, tax or regulatory compliance. Sure, we know the rules too! But not as thoroughly as these people.
So we don’t like to say we are better than public practice accountants. In fact we have our own accountant that does our company accounts and tax returns for us! And if we work with you we will want to develop an excellent relationship with your accountant/auditor and tax advisor, so that we make sure you get the best out of them. In that sense, again, our service complements that of accounting firms.
